Detailed description of Great Gorge Golf Club

Great Gorge Golf Club is a Public, 27 hole golf facility located in Mcafee, New Jersey.

Great Gorge Country Club first opened for play in 1970. The 27-hole complex was designed by George Fazio.%u200B

The Great Gorge golf facility has three 9-hole golf courses, The Lake, The Quarry, and The Rail. These 9-hole golf courses can be paired to form 3 different 18-hole golf course challenges (Lake/Quarry, Lake/Rail, Quarry/Rail).

The Quarryside Course - From the back tees, this is the most demanding nine. This course plays through spectacular rock outcroppings and diverse water hazards.

The Lakeside Course - Designed to be a fair challenge for all levels of play, this nine is set amid sparkling lakes and mature trees, featuring dramatic elevation changes.

The Railside Course - The most scenic nine is also the most forgiving, as strategically protected greensites are sculpted into the dramatic terrain. The par-3 third hole on the Railside Course features artifacts from the railroad era, in a formation reminiscent of Stonehenge.

The course closed in 2015, but was reopened again in May 2017.

After being closed in 2015 and 2016, 50 percent of the putting surfaces at Great Gorge at Mountain Creek had died, weeds grew around the bunkers and the course was strewn with brush and vastly overgrown.

A little more than one year since Mountain Creek Resort purchased the golf course, much of the charm of the George Fazio design that was built in 1970 to accompany the Great Gorge Playboy Club has been restored.

The day we played it was a bit wet, and for two holes it rained like hell. The course drained quite well. They really have not improved the cart paths as I would describe them as better than the Baha California road race, but worse than an inner city sidewalk. I would definetely play here again. Rail & Quarry were the two 9's I played.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area

A little over priced, cart paths in bad shape, some bad greens and a few marginally unfair holes.

Do Not Recall (cart included), played on Sunday, August 2012 at noon

I've played this course before and have enjoyed but this time was different. The fairways and tee boxes (Quarry nine) were in terrible condition. They have new carts which must be the worst ever - absolutely no suspension and the cart paths are rough. They were extraoadinarily uncomfortable. Also, We were constantly held up by a group in front of us and never once did we see a ranger.

Would travel: 0-10 Miles

This is one of the Crystal Springs Resort courses. Each of the three nines has a great layout. Sometimes the course is wet. Fun golf course, always worth playing.

All 3 of the 9-hole courses are in terrific condition, as usual. The quality of the course conditions and their afternoon greens fees, especially when combined with the 'Rewards Card', make this course an outstanding value.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Ranks with the best in this price level
